THE WIND ENERGY DEBATE The controversy over whether or not Prince Edward County is the right place for massive numbers of wind turbines, has been a contentious issue. On one side are those who are in favour of wind turbines at any cost to wildlife, habitat or even the tourism so important to our County's economic base. Their belief seems to be that nine turbines, along Prince Edward County's south shore, are going to make a substantial difference to Ontario - even though green energy can be sourced more cost-effectively, without building more infrastructure. On the other side are those who may favour green energy (although wind energy is dependant on the whims of the breezes) but want these structures sited properly. To these people, it seems inconceivable that one of these proposed projects, Ostrander Point, would even be contemplated in a fragile ecosystem and in what has been identified as An Important Bird Area which is home to two of Ontario's endangered species.
