 OUR OBSESSION WITH WARBLERS

Chestnut-sided Warbler. Photo by Keith GregoireWhat is it about the warblers that gets birders so excited every May – even more so than the arrival of migrating waterfowl, the first killdeer of the year, and the exuberance felt when a pair of bluebirds chooses one of your nest boxes? Ian Dickinson of Belleville explains it superbly, without benefit of words, in this exceptional photo collage that he put together, set to music. If you are a birder, but haven’t experienced the thrill of the spring arrival of these little butterflies of the bird world, or the feeling of sadness when the last warbler has departed for the boreal forests where they will nest, then you will definitely want to experience it when the warblers are due to arrive again next year in May.
