 LOWER   TRENT   CONSERVATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a> Lower Trent Conservation was formed in 1968 under the Conservation Authorities Act to protect, restore and manage water and other natural resources within the Lower Trent Conservation watershed region. Lower Trent Conservation is accountable to the residents of the watershed through our Board of Directors appointed by the elected councils of the seven municipalities located either entirely, or partially, within the watershed region. This accountability, combined with local decision making, is a key strength that Lower Trent Conservation draws on as we work with our partners to address the region\u2019s environmental challenges. We are striving to be a local leader in conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 24, 2020<\/strong> Welcome to the latest edition of MAINSTREAM News… Dear Friends of the Lower Trent Watershed:
The environment needs your help. On behalf of the\u00a0Lower Trent Conservation (LTC), we are writing to ask for your support.\u00a0 \u00a0 On November 5th 2020, the Ontario government tabled\u00a0Bill 229?Protect, Support, and Recover from COVID-19 Act (Budget Measures)<\/a>, which includes Schedule 6 that proposes\u00a0major\u00a0changes<\/a>\u00a0to the?Conservation Authorities Act?that we all, including you, need to be concerned about. We are hoping to have your support by voicing your opinion and expressing your concerns?to the Province and to your local constituents. It is important that\u00a0Conservation Authorities (CAs) be given more opportunity to have a dialogue with the Province to improve the delivery of our programs and services; but the most meaningful way to do this is through constructive conversation and public consultation, not by rushing changes through an omnibus bill using COVID as the rationale.\u00a0We need all of our friends to\u00a0act today\u00a0by emailing, calling, and sharing your support of Ontario’s CAs and the LTC’s vision of ‘Healthy Watersheds for Healthy Communities’. \u00a0 The proposed amendments to the\u00a0Conservation Authorities Act<\/a>\u00a0could have significant environmental impact due to decisions being made without consideration of the local watershed science and data provided by conservation authorities. The changes could potentially add significant delays and costs in enforcement, planning and permitting processes, and have significant impacts on CA\u2019s ability to provide cost-effective flooding and natural hazards management\/protection and drinking water source protection to Ontarians.
The proposed changes through Bill 229 could reduce your local conservation authority’s\u00a0ability to do so; restricting our capacity to provide important recreational, educational, and employment opportunities across our watershed.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 We are Asking You to Have Your Say Today!
