HERBICIDE APPLICATION FOR ROADSIDE INVASIVE PHRAGMITES TO START AUGUST 17, 2026
Management control efforts for invasive phragmites will be taking place in roadsides throughout the City of Belleville and Prince Edward County starting the week of August 17th.
In preparation for this process, Quinte Conservation would like to invite the public to an Invasive Phragmites Information Session on August 12 to learn more about:
- Identifying Invasive Phragmites
- The negative impact this species has on the Quinte Watershed
- The Quinte Region Phragmites Management Area (QRPMA)
- Roadside control project and the herbicide being used
- Long-term management efforts
- Opportunities for residents to support long-term control efforts.

Invasive Phragmites (Phragmites australis) is an aggressive, subaquatic plant that spreads quickly and outcompetes native species for water and nutrients. The roots release biochemicals into the soil that hinder the growth of surrounding plants, therefore allowing them to form dense colonies.
