Part One, Workshop

The first 20 to register will receive a bat house kit and will assemble it at the workshop. Our bat specialists will guide you in the process.

It will be ready for you to install in your backyard.

Free of charge. Donations happily accepted.

There will also be a 30-minute presentation on the biology and current state of bats.

Part Two, Walk

A walk at the Lennox Generating Station, 7263 Hwy 33, Bath, to see existing Purple Martin Houses, Tree Swallow/Bluebird Houses, Osprey Platforms and Peregrine Falcon Boxes.

Learn about the Ontario Power Generation Wildlife Habitat Accreditation and the ongoing bird monitoring by the Lennox and Addington Stewardship Council.

Please car pool there if possible and meet in the parking lot.

NOTE: All are welcome to the workshop and the walk, but only the first 20 pre-registered will be able to assemble a bat box.

Links to online resources for the construction of the bat houses will be available, as well as additional plans for constructing bat roosting boxes.

PRESENTERS

Dale Kristensen is an Instructor/lecturer at Queen’s University Biology Department (Ret’d). Manager of the Queen’s plant research facility. And an Environmental Consultant specializing in biodiversity and ecology since1986.

Chris Grooms has volunteered with the Kingston Field Naturalists for about 40 years. He has also been building and managing bird nesting structures for more than 4 decades. He is a Research Technician and lab manager at the Paleoecological Environmental Assessment and Research Lab (PEARL) in the Biology Department of Queen’s University.

Kurt Hennige has been a working biologist for most of his life. His specialties include: Enhanced Marsh Monitoring, Bat monitoring, Breeding bird surveys, eBird reviewer for several counties, and past Chair of the Kingston Field Naturalists.

Ashley Fox is an Environmental Advisor at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), focusing on sustainable development initiatives and environmental compliance. She holds a Master’s in Environment and Business.
