SANDY PINES WILDLIFE CENTRE

As we are in the holiday season when many of us reach out to offer help and support to worthy causes, FSR would like to take this opportunity to highlight a charitable, non-profit organization which has been an important resource providing help to injured wildlife in our local area for 25+ years.

The mandate of Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre is to help all injured or orphaned wildlife including mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians and release them back to the wild. Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre rehabilitates over 6000 animals a year.  They can also give advice and assistance to property owners having problems with wild animals and can offer humane alternatives to solve these problems.

Educational (virtual and in-person) programs are offered for students of all ages, and for camps and daycares. Virtual and in-person Emergency Response training for adults is available. Guided hikes are also offered.

Volunteer opportunities include:

–        Volunteer Internship Program, which gives hands-on experience in wildlife handling, care, enrichment, diet and basic treatments.

–        On-site duties can include feeding, meal preparation, cleaning, and assisting staff, etc.

–        Transportation can include picking up and driving animals to the wildlife hospital.

–        Fundraising and event preparation, planning, organizing events and assisting at events
